Report on seizures of opium and anti-opium

pills at Vancouver and St. John, Canada.

On November 19th, 1929, the above named Chinaman,

who was a member of the crew of the C.P.R. Steamship Impress

of Asia" was arrested by the Customs Department Officers, and

charged with having in his possession about eight taels of

Opium, packed in small jars: at the same time the officers

seized a small quantity of Crude Opium.

When questioned by the investigating officers of this

Department, Yip Chuong stated that he purchased this Opium from

a peddler on board the "Empress of Asia" at Shanghai, China,

paying him two dollars a tael, Hong Kong currency.

This man pleaded guilty to the charge of possession,

and on November 21st was sentenced to six months imprisonment,

$300.00 fine, or a further three months in default of payment.
